Lily Rabe will join Delta Burke, Christine Ebersole and Rebecca Gayheart in the upcoming revival of Robert Harling's Steel Magnolias. She will play Annelle, a young beautician with a mysterious past, according to a production spokesperson.
Rabe is the daughter of actress Jill Clayburgh who was once herself in talks to appear in this revival and playwright David Rabe. A recent graduate of Northwestern University, Rabe's regional stage credits include Speaking Well of The Dead and The Crazy Girl, both alongside her mother. She has appeared on the big screen in Never Again and Mona Lisa Smile. Steel Magnolias will mark her Broadway debut.
Steel Magnolias is set it a small-town beauty parlor in Louisiana and follows the lives of several women who often meet there. The story pays particular attention to M'Lynn Ebersole and her daughter Shelby Gayheart. Both a comedy and a tearjerker, there are eccentric characters galore in the play.
The play, directed by Jason Moore, is set to begin performances at the Lyceum Theatre on March 15 and officially open on April 4.
